At Pilgrim Lodge No. 6342, tradition and charity go hand in hand with their annual Whisky Raffle, a beloved event that runs throughout the Master’s time in the Chair. Each year, a gallon bottle of whisky is raffled off, with the proceeds split between the Master’s selected charity and the Lodge’s charity fund, supporting a wider range of local causes.
Last year, WBro Phil Mantey PPSGW, who is now in his third consecutive year as Master of the Lodge, chose the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) as his charity of choice. Thanks to the support of brethren and visitors purchasing raffle tickets, Phil was able to present a generous cheque for £400 to the Operations Manager of the Cullercoats Lifeboat Station. It was a proud moment for both Phil and Pilgrim Lodge, helping to support the critical work the RNLI does in saving lives at sea.
With Phil remaining in the Chair for another year, he has chosen a new cause close to his heart: the Alzheimer’s Society. This year, proceeds from the whisky raffle will help raise much-needed funds for this vital charity, which supports individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia.
So, if you’re planning a visit to Pilgrim Lodge, don’t forget to buy a ticket (or a few!) for the gallon bottle of whisky. Every ticket sold helps contribute to a great cause, with half of the proceeds going directly to the Alzheimer’s Society and the other half supporting a variety of other charities, including the Northumberland Masonic Charity Association (NMCA).
Together, let’s help Pilgrim Lodge raise a fantastic sum for this year’s charity and continue their tradition of giving back to the community! 💙
