The Futures Group

Introduction

The Futures Group was formed in 2022 and tasked by the Provincial Grand Master, to develop a strategic plan for the future of Freemasonry in Northumberland.  The Deputy Provincial Grand Master Chairs the group.

The Group have developed a framework to develop the plan.  One of the principles of how the Futures Group will work is the collaboration, at every stage of the plan’s development, with the brethren of Northumberland Province so our members will feel a sense of ownership of the work of the Futures Group and we can deliver the strategy collaboratively.

Our strategic plan starts with our mission. The mission of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Northumberland is our shared mission with UGLE:

Our Mission

To attract those from all backgrounds and walks of life, enabling them to develop into more thoughtful and confident people. To inspire and challenge them to practise the core values we celebrate – Integrity, Friendship, Respect, and Charity – in their private and public lives. To cement our reputation as a force for good in our communities and society at large and as a thriving organisation that people aspire to join.

Our Priorities

Our strategic plan will be developed around Five Key Priorities.  These priorities also align to UGLE’s 7-year strategy, which ensures our organisation at every level is working in a join-up way. Conclusion

Planning for the Future of Freemasonry in Northumberland involves every member of the Province. All our members will be invited, enabled and encouraged to participate actively in a living process that will shape our future.

The process we have adopted is blind to rank, office, or length of service and will result in a plan that our members will unite behind – which will be the key to its success.

The Futures Group have already made significant progress, undertaken considerable work, and started shaping our plan. Through this process, the Province of Northumberland has embraced a ‘yes if’ not ‘No because’ approach to planning for our future and created a framework to implement meaningful change to shape our future and secure our long-term success.
