Saturday 9th July saw nine members of the Northumberland Light Blues Club, accompanied by partners, meet opposite the Spanish Battery at Tynemouth, just down the hill from Tynemouth Priory, to undertake a historical tour of the area.
The walk through Tynemouth and North Shields was led by local historian, and published author on the area, Bro. David Scholey, of Tyne Lodge No.991, which meets at Wallsend Masonic Hall. David has a vast depth of knowledge concerning the area and the walk featured frequent stops at prominent points of interest throughout the tour.
Lasting just under 3 hours, and covering a distance of around 5 miles, the walk, which was completed in beautiful sunshine, was followed by some of the team requiring fluid replacement and promptly adjourning to Tynemouth High Street to enjoy the Mouth of the Tyne Festival being held on that day.
A wonderful, educational event which, If you couldn’t make it, you would be highly recommend trying to attend in the future. A most excellent day was had by all.
Many thanks to Bro. Darren Bolton for the submission of this article.
