In an inspiring collaboration for a great cause, Northumberland Freemasons and the Northumberland Widows Sons Masonic Bikers Association stepped up to support the “Morrisons 54” charity initiative. This year, the charity created in honour of Morrisons’ founding in 1954 focuses on raising funds to support 54 children’s hospices across the UK. The symbolic cup relay, where a cup is transported between stores to raise awareness and funds, has caught the attention of communities nationwide.
For the Alnwick-to-Amble leg of the relay, Northumberland Freemasons, through their Provincial Secretary, suggested enlisting the Northumberland Widows Sons Masonic, well-known for their dedication to charitable work. The Northumberland Widows Sons, always ready to lend a hand (or a bike!), eagerly took on the challenge, combining their love for motorcycling with their passion for supporting meaningful causes.
The cup’s journey from Alnwick to Amble was made extra special when Debbie Clarke, People Manager for Amble and Alnwick, joined the event. Debbie hopped on the back of a motorcycle with Luke Slucock, President of the Northumberland Widows Sons’ Chapter, to help transport the cup. Their journey not only carried the symbolic cup but also highlighted the spirit of community collaboration and collective action that lies at the heart of the Morrisons 54 initiative.
Morrisons 54 is dedicated to addressing key social issues such as hunger relief, mental health support, and helping disadvantaged communities. By organizing events like the cup relay, the charity brings together individuals and organisations to raise both funds and awareness for these important causes. This year’s efforts are specifically aimed at helping children’s hospices, with the money raised in Northumberland being donated to St. Oswald’s Hospice.
Following the success of the Alnwick-to-Amble relay, the Northumberland Widows Sons Bikers were asked to continue supporting the next leg, transporting the cup to Morpeth. Debbie Clarke, eager to keep the momentum going, enthusiastically joined the bikers once again for another ride, ensuring that the charity’s mission continued smoothly and caught the attention of the local community.
The involvement of Northumberland Freemasons and the Northumberland Widows Sons Masonic Bikers demonstrates the power of collaboration in supporting causes that truly matter. By bringing together different groups, the Morrisons 54 charity initiative not only raises much-needed funds but also fosters a strong sense of community spirit.
This event highlights how local organisations and individuals can work together to make a positive difference. Whether it’s through a symbolic cup relay or simply coming together for a shared cause, this year’s Morrisons 54 initiative has shown the strength and generosity of communities across the UK. With the support of groups like the Northumberland Freemasons and the Northumberland Widows Sons, the future looks bright for this meaningful charity.
