Together in Tradition: Northumberland Joins Durham for a Proud Masonic Milestone

Northumberland Attends Historic Installation in Durham

On Saturday, 28th June, the Northumberland Provincial Executive Team had the honour of attending a momentous event in the Province of Durham – the Installation of VWBro John David Watts as both Provincial Grand Master and Grand Superintendent.

It was only three years ago that the Brethren gathered in Gateshead to witness the Installation of WBro John Paul Thompson into those very same offices. Since then, WBro Thompson has been called to serve at an even higher level, recently appointed as Assistant Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England.

The FED Banqueting Suite was filled to capacity as Freemasons from across the region and beyond came together to witness this significant occasion. The day was rich in ceremony, symbolism, and fraternity – the true hallmarks of our enduring Masonic heritage.

The Northumberland delegation was led by:

  • Kevin Stannard, PGM/MEGS

  • John Bruce – Deputy Provincial Grand Master

  • David Armstrong – APGM

  • David Southern – APGM

  • Geoffrey Morrison – APGM

  • Stuart Cairns – Provincial Grand Secretary

  • Philippe Pagès – Deputy Grand Secretary

  • Paul Ryder – 3rd Provincial Grand Principal

We were also delighted to be joined by our Past Provincial Grand Master, RWBro Ian Craigs.

A Message from the New Assistant Provincial Grand Master and Reflections on a Historic Day in Durham

Dear Brethren,

I am deeply honoured and humbled to accept the appointment as Assistant Provincial Grand Master of the Province of Northumberland. I extend my sincere gratitude to our Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother Kevin Stannard, for his trust and confidence.

It is a privilege to serve alongside such dedicated Freemasons in this wonderful Province, and I look forward to working with you all to uphold the values and traditions that make Northumberland so special. Together, we will continue to support our lodges, promote fellowship, and pursue the aspirations outlined in the Pro Grand Master’s Strategy for Freemasonry 2022 and Beyond.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for the many kind messages, calls, and expressions of support I have received. Your friendship and encouragement have been truly overwhelming and deeply appreciated. I am excited to begin this new chapter and to serve the Province to the very best of my ability in the exciting times ahead.

Once again, thank you, Brethren. I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Yours fraternally,
W.Bro Chris Ainsley PProvJGW, APGM

It was a proud day for the Craft and a joy to stand in unity with our friends and neighbours in Durham. We extend our warmest congratulations to VWBro John David Watts and wish him every success as he leads the Province forward.
