In the world of grassroots football, ensuring young players have the right kit is crucial for their development and confidence on the pitch. This was a pressing issue for the newly formed Newcastle Benfield Under 12s San Siro Football Team, as they faced a shortage of essential training gear. However, thanks to the support and generosity of the local Masonic community, the team now has the equipment they need to thrive.
The story began when the team’s coach, Emma Meachen, mentioned the need for new kit during a conversation with the grandfather of one of the players, Bruce Coleman. Bruce, who is a member of Buddle Lodge No 3937, which meets at the Wallsend Masonic Hall, immediately saw an opportunity to help. Recognising the importance of supporting local youth sports, he reached out to the Provincial Grand Almoner, who suggested applying to the Freemasons of Northumberland charity for assistance.
The application was successful, and the fund provided a grant to the team, allowing them to purchase much-needed jackets for training. The team, which consists of one girl and eleven boys, trains once or twice a week and competes in matches every Sunday, traveling to various locations between Berwick and Newcastle.
Coach Emma Meachen expressed her gratitude for the support, stating, “These jackets are perfect for training when the weather is cold, and all the kids have benefited from them.” The new kit has not only provided the players with practical benefits, such as staying warm during training sessions, but it has also boosted their morale and sense of team unity.
This generous contribution from the Freemasons of Northumberland is a shining example of how local Freemasons continue to make a positive impact in their communities. By supporting the Newcastle Benfield Under 12s San Siro Football Team, they are helping to nurture the next generation of athletes and ensuring that every player has the opportunity to enjoy and excel in the sport they love.
As the team continues their season, they can do so with confidence, knowing they have the backing of their community. The partnership between the Masons and local organizations like the Newcastle Benfield Under 12s is a testament to the power of community spirit and the difference it can make in the lives of young people.
