Malcolms Golden Celebrations

05th November 2021

Congratulations to W.Bro. Malcolm McPherson, of Arcot Lodge No.7000, which meets at Cramlington Masonic Building, on completing fifty years of uninterupted service in Freemasonry.

Malcolm was initiated into Freemasonry on 22nd September 1970, into Arcot Lodge. He went onto the Stewards List of the Lodge in 1973 and finally took his first step on the ladder, as Inner Guard, in 1978. He completed every office on his way to taking the Masters chair in 1982, and again in 2005. In the 47 years, since joining the Stewards List in 1973, Malcolm has held office, both official and unofficial, every year, including Chaplain, Assistant Director of Ceremonies and Director of Ceremonies. His hard work in the Lodge was recognised when he was made an honorary member in March 2018.

His dedication to the Craft was acknowledged by Provincial Grand Lodge in 1991, when he was appointed to the rank of Past Provincial Assistant Grand Registrar, and then promoted, in 2008, to Past Provincial Grand Junior Warden. He was also made an Honorary Member of Lodge Mauldslie Castle No. 1630, Scottish Constitution, in Law, Carluke, Scotland in October 1982.

In addition to his Craft Masonry Malcolm joined Cramlington Royal Arch Chapter No.4196, in March 1982 and Cramlington Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 1235, in March 2013.

What isn’t so well known is that the McPherson family connection, with Cramlington Masonic Building, goes back to 1932 when Malcolms Grandfather was initiated into Cramlington Lodge. His Father was later Initiated into Arcot Lodge also on 22nd September, but in 1953, at a cost of 15 guineas. Malcolm was next, 17 years later and then his brother, Brian, joined 3 years after that.

Away from Freemasonry Malcolm was a joiner by trase, working as a maintenance manager for a firm of Quantity Surveyors in Gosforth, for over 30 years. He also has a passion for motor biking and is a member of the Motor Bike Club

Malcolm married in 1971 and visited the Clan McPherson Museum in Newtonmore, Inverness when they signed the Visitors Register. They subsequently repeated the process on their 25th Wedding Anniversary and have just done so again to celebrate their 50th Anniversary

Many thanks to W.Bro Malcolm McPherson for the submission of this article.

Congratulations to Malcolm from everyone at Northumberland Freemasons on your magnificent achievement. We wish you many more happy years in the Craft and specifically with Arcot Lodge.
