Grand Officers Mess

16th November 2024

A number of Grand Officers and their guests recently met at Fern Avenue for the second meeting of the newly formed Grand Officers’ Mess.

On this occasion, following an excellent dinner, Sam Buxton, manager of the RMBI Scarborough Court Care Home was introduced to the brethren by W Bro Ian Craigs, Provincial Grand Master.

The brethren received a very interesting and informative talk on the operations of the care home, indications on the usual process for application for entry and funding guidance. Following the talk W Bro Ron Laybourne, of Lodge de Loraine, regaled the brethren with his experiences as a resident of the home and on how much he appreciated the tremendous support and care given by the staff at the home.

The Friends of Scarborough Court is a voluntary group which raises funds to provide social activities for the residents such as guest acts who come to entertain the residents. They would welcome donations at any time and at present are endeavouring to raise £75,000 to replace the old minibus which has become very tired and is often in need of repair. The minibus provides the opportunity to take residents out on visits into the community. The Friends of Scarborough Court would also welcome volunteers to drive the mini-bus on such occasions.

The next meeting of the Grand Officers Mess will be held in the spring of 2025. This will be a twice yearly opportunity for Grand Officers and their guests to meet for a convivial meal and to welcome a guest speaker. The inaugural speaker was E Comp Sir David Wootton, Second Grand Principal, and

In future there will be interesting and varied speakers, both masonic and non-masonic.
