George Gascoigne Fiftieth Celebrations

03rd November 2023

Today we help W.Bro George Gascoigne celebrate a fantastic fifty years of uninterrupted service to the Craft.

George was initiated into Freemasonry in September 1973 when he joined Tyne-Castle Lodge No.6317, prior to its closure when he joined Carliol Lodge No.5419, which meets at Fern Avenue Masonic Hall, in January 2022. When George was initiated he was following in family footsteps, including 2 brothers, in the Lodge.

He occupied the office of Master in 1987 and was acknowledged for his dedication when he was appointed, in Provincial Grand Lodge, to the rank of Past Provincial Assistant Grand Registrar in 1995, receiving subsequent Promotions to Past Provincial Grand Registrar in 2001 and finally to Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden in 2016.

He joined the Royal Arch Chapter in 1981 when he was Exalted into Chapter de Swinburne No.24, which meets at Byker Masonic Hall.

In presenting George with his certificate WBro Alasdair Watson, Assistant Provincial Grand Master, drew attention to coincidences in George’s life with the night, pointing out his middle name, Alexander, was the English for his own, Alasdair and that George’s father had been a professional soldier, training men in the First World War to go to the front, a further connection with him as an infantry Major, however, what topped and tailed his masonic journey so far was that on the night of his initiation Tyne-Castle Lodge had received WBro Jackson, Assistant Provincial Grand Master, with a Provincial Team visit and now he was receiving his certificate from another Assistant Provincial Grand Master, witnessed by his son-in-law and grandson.
In reply, George stated he had many happy memories of his time in Tyne-Castle Lodge until it closed and having then joined Carliol Lodge was enjoying his time with them, thanking the brethren for their companionship.
