Northumberland Freemasons were delighted to have been able to provide a grant towards the purchase of a Scalp Cooling Unit for the Chemo Day Unit at the QE Hospital in Gateshead. A donation of £10,000 was made from the Richard Henry Holmes Benevolent Fund in memory of Particia Denton, the late wife of our Past Assistant Provincial Grand Master Brian.
Brian attended the unit on a very special Valentines Day to affix a commemorative plaque in Patricia’s memory.
Brian had told us of his wife’s time at the Hospital and the beneficial effects of this pioneering type of equipment. Not only does it make treatment more bearable to the patient, but it can reduce chemotherapy induced alopecia, a well-known side effect of most forms of chemotherapy.
The unit was kindly provided by Paxman UK, based in Huddersfield. They are world leaders in this type of technology.
Paul Winship, Provincial Grand Charity Steward for Northumberland Freemasons
We are so proud to have been involved in making this grant to such a worthy cause and in memory of Patricia, the late wife of a much loved and highly respected Freemason. The Richard Henry Holmes Benevolent Fund provides many grants each year which are primarily focused on making an impact in our local community.
