Many congratulations to 98 year old W.Bro Denis Eggleton on reaching his diamond jubilee in Freemasonry, having served sixty years uninterupted service in the Craft.
Denis was initially interviewed as a candidate for Freemasonry in October 1960, at a shop at 14 Cloth Market, by one of the Founder Members, W.Bro Pembury, along with 6 other candidates. He was finally initiated into Freemasonry in Athelstan Lodge No.6469, which meets at Fern Avenue Masonic Centre, in May 1961, when the Master was W.Bro Hutchinson.
Denis was finally appointed as a Steward in 1969, due to the large amount of members, and it took him a further 4 years to become Inner Guard. He occupied all the offices in the Lodge before becoming Master of the Lodge in 1979 At the installation ceremony two of the Founder Members acted as the Wardens and during his year in office Denis conducted three Iinitiations, four Second Degrees and two Third Degrees..Denis held the position of Treasurer for 8 years from 1983 and was made an honourairy member in 2013, as he had moved to Cambridge to be closer to his daughter. He was appointed to the rank of Past Provincial Deputy Grand Regsitar, in Provincial Grand Lodge,
in 1989 In the Holy Royal Arch Chapter he was exalted into Walker Chapter No.6261, later resigning in 1990.
Congratulations from everyone at Northumberland Freemasons to Denis on reaching sixty years of uninterupted service in the Craft. A fantastic achievement..
Many thanks to W.Bro Derek Brown on the submission of this article.
