Congratulations to W.Bro. Anthony Lane, of the Provinces oldest Lodge, Newcastle-upon-Tyne Lodge No.24, which meets at Byker Masonic Hall, on sixty years of uninterrupted service to the Craft.
Tony was initiated into Freemasonry in October 1961 alongside his brother at the Brighton Assembly Rooms, Westgate Road, joining Moorside Lodge No.7120, until its erasure in 2014. He subsequently joined Newcastle-upon-Tyne Lodge after Moorsides erasure, becoming an Honorary Member this year. He became Master of Moorside Lodge in 1970 and is currently the Charity Steward of Newcastle-upon-Tyne Lodge.
He was appointed in Provincial Grand Lodge to the rank of Past Provincial Junior Grand Deacon, in 1981, being subsequently promoted, in 1987, to the rarely seen Past Provincial Senior Grand Warden.
At the time of his initiation Tony was newly married and awaiting the completion of his first house in Blaydon., whilst also studying Management Studies at the College of Commerce, now known as Northumbria University. He joined Gallahers, situated round the corner from the East End Temple, as the main premises of his previous employer had burnt down. This new job involved extensive travelling during the first year, on induction training, mainly to Belfast, Glasgow and London. Tony was divorced from his first wife in the early 80s., and subsequently bought a flat in Wallsend which he lived in until he remarried in 1995. Owning and holidaying at, an apartment in Turkey for 20 years, together with having to work for varying lengths of time in Belfast, Dublin, Manchester and Glasgow meant Tom missed meetings over his 40+ years as Treasurer.
Congratulations to Tony from everyone at Northumberland Freemasons on reaching this magnificent landmark and we wish you many more happy years with Newcastle-upon-Tyne Lodge.
