Northumberland Freemasons, through the Richard Henry Holmes Benevolent Fund, have once again helped kick start the Mayor of Morpeths year long charity fundraising activities with a £5000 donation.
The Mayor, during their year in office, selects a charity to support, and this year Councillor David Bawn, has selected a local Morpeth charity, namely Contact (Morpeth Mental Health Group). Last year Alison Byard selected Northumbria Blood Bikes, raising £35000 during her year in office, which Northumberland Freemasons donated to.
Contact (Morpeth Mental Health Group) is an independent local charity based in Morpeth but their reach covers the whole of south-east Northumberland, particularly Ashington, Bedlington, Cramlington, and Blyth. They support people with mental health conditions and/or their carers and are the only drop In center, in South East Northumberland, for those affected. Over time they have developed the center, the activities, the counselling, the support, the Trustee Board and the Volunteers and are now pro-active on creating new and exciting activities to support the needs of their members.Their doors are open for those who just need to pop in for a cuppa, in a totally non-judgement environment, fun and friendly.
Stuart Cairns, the Secretary to the Trustees of the Rihard henry Holmes Benevolent Fund said “We’re delighted to support the Morpeth Town Mayor’s Charity Appeal in favour of the Morpeth Mental Health Group. We have supported the Morpeth Mayor’s Charity Appeal in the past; they are always for very worthy causes and gives such a tremendous amount of help and service to the Community”
