Northumberland Freemasons have donated a huge £10,000 to assist a Hexham charity with their vital work in connection with their Family Support Services.
Tynedale Hospice at Home is an independent charity which provides end of life nursing care, a hospital transport service and pre- and post-bereavement support to children, adults, and families.
The grant will assist the charity to continue to provide an open access service for children and teenagers who have been bereaved or are dealing with a terminal illness in their family. The service helps them to provide a safe space to talk and let out their emotions all backed up by one-to-one support to help them understand and manage their feelings.
“We are absolutely delighted with the grant from Northumberland Freemasons to support our pre-and post-bereavement service for children and young people. The coronavirus has exacerbated all the triggers for children and young people to develop complicated grief and this grant ensures we can continue supporting families in the toughest of times.” said Mike Thornicroft, CEO of Tynedale Hospice at Home.
The £10,000 grant forms part of the latest donations provided by Northumberland Freemasons through the Richard Henry Holmes Benevolent Fund which has given more than £160,000 in 2020 and was fund matched by the Masonic Charitable Foundation, which is funded by Freemasons from across England and Wales.
Stuart Cairns, the Provincial Grand Secretary for Northumberland Freemasons said: “We are all experiencing a number of challenges right now but it will be particularly difficult and stressful for those facing a family bereavement or life-threatening situation. Support and care are always needed on these occasions but possibly even more so in these current circumstances.
“Tynedale Hospice at Home provides a very valuable structure of care and support within our local community and we were delighted to have the opportunity to give our own help to the Hospice in support of the services that it provides.”
