A rarely experienced Masonic event occurred at Fern Avenue Masonic Centre, on Tuesday the 4th February 2020, when WBro Richard Dickson Dawson was presented with a certificate marking his 60 years of service to Freemasonry and membership of Athelstan Lodge No. 6469.

WBro Dawson was initiated on the 26th. January 1960 and has served as Master of the Lodge on two occasions, firstly in 1977 and then again in 2009. Even though recent health difficulties and advancing years have limited his participation in lodge activities he still has taken on the role of Inner Guard and maintains a keen interest in the welfare of the lodge and its members.

WBro Dr Gregg R Smith PSGD, Assistant Provincial Grand Master, presented the certificate and expressed his congratulations and thanks to W/Bro Dawson for the long service to his Lodge and to Northumberland Freemasonry in general. The occasion was made extra special for Richard when, to his surprise and delight, he was promoted to the rank of Past Provincial Senior Grand Warden.

At a very enjoyable festive board the Worshipful Master proposed a good natured toast to Richard expressing the Lodge’s thanks for the many years of service. On behalf of the members Richard was presented with a bottle of his favourite tipple, Jamaican rum, which was greatly appreciated and no doubt will be thoroughly enjoyed.
