The Brethren of St Nicholas Lodge No. 1676, together with more than thirty visitors, enjoyed a most memorable and convivial Installation Meeting held at the Gosforth Hotel, witnessing a truly remarkable occasion.
The highlight of the evening was the Installation of Worshipful Brother Phil Mantey into the Chair of King Solomon for the ninth time—a rare distinction that reflects the esteem in which he is held by the Brethren and his unwavering commitment to the Lodge. W. Bro. Phil continues to exemplify the dedication, leadership and Masonic values that have contributed greatly to the continued success and harmony of St Nicholas Lodge No. 1676.
The Lodge was honoured by the presence of W. Bro. John Yim Chan PSGD, PAPGM Northumberland, who attended as the representative of the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master. Accompanying him was W. Bro. Balu Dorani, acting as his Director of Ceremonies. Their attendance added distinction to an already special evening and was warmly appreciated by all present.

As a proud Real Ale Lodge, St Nicholas Lodge remains true to many of the traditions and customs that have long been associated with Freemasonry. It is fitting that the meeting took place in a public house, for Freemasons gathered in taverns, inns and public houses long before purpose-built Masonic halls and temples existed. Indeed, many of the earliest Lodges met in such establishments, where fellowship, good conversation and brotherly affection flourished alongside the work of the Craft. St Nicholas Lodge continues to honour that rich heritage, offering a truly traditional Masonic experience in a setting that perfectly reflects those historic roots.
The Gosforth Hotel provided the ideal venue for an evening that combined excellent ritual, warm fellowship and the enjoyment of fine real ale. The atmosphere throughout the meeting and festive board reflected the strong bonds of friendship that continue to make St Nicholas Lodge such a welcoming and thriving Lodge.
Warm congratulations are extended to W. Bro. Phil Mantey and to all the invested Officers of St Nicholas Lodge No. 1676. As they begin another Masonic year together, we wish them every success in continuing the Lodge’s proud traditions of friendship, harmony, charitable endeavour and Masonic excellence.
