St David’s Lodge No. 393 Hosts Cross-Border Masonic Gathering in Support of Veterans
St David’s Lodge No. 393, Berwick-upon-Tweed, recently hosted a heartfelt and well-supported meeting dedicated to Combat Stress, the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health. The evening brought together Brethren from both England and Scotland, united by a shared commitment to supporting those who have served in the armed forces and now face psychological challenges.
Distinguished Provincial Leaders in Attendance
The Lodge was honoured by the presence of three Provincial Grand Masters, whose attendance highlighted the importance of the cause and the unity between neighbouring Masonic Provinces:
R.W. Bro. Kevin Peter Stannard, Provincial Grand Master for Northumberland
R.W. Bro. Stuart J. Robson, Provincial Grand Master for East Lothian
R.W. Bro. James Thom, Provincial Grand Master for the Scottish Borders
Their support underscored the Craft’s longstanding tradition of standing beside servicemen and women and championing their welfare.

Raising Awareness and Meaningful Support
The meeting included a discussion on the critical work of Combat Stress, which provides life-changing support to veterans coping with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and trauma. Speakers highlighted the importance of community support to the charity’s mission and to the well-being of veterans adjusting to life after service.
In an inspiring display of generosity and cross-border unity, the Lodge raised £1,400 for Combat Stress. These funds will directly assist the charity’s ongoing work supporting veterans across the United Kingdom.
Unity Across the Border
Brethren from both sides of the River Tweed gathered in fellowship, demonstrating how Freemasonry transcends boundaries and brings people together for meaningful, compassionate action. The evening served as a reminder that when the Craft unites behind a cause, the impact can be profound.
