Walk, Ride & Celebrate: Alston to Haltwhistle Sponsored Walk & Featherstone Castle Family Fun Day

A Day of Charity, Fellowship, and Family Fun

Date: Saturday, 16th August 2025
Time: From 08:00 hrs
Location: Alston to Haltwhistle (walk), followed by Family Fun Day at Featherstone Castle

The Duke of Connaught Lodge No. 3892 and the Northumberland Light Blues Club are proud to present a fantastic charity event in support of the Northumberland Masonic Charity Association (NMCA), Charity No. 1094245.

This special day of community, fellowship, and fundraising will begin with a sponsored walk through the stunning North Pennines AONB, followed by a vibrant Family Fun Day at historic Featherstone Castle.


Sponsored Walk: Alston to Haltwhistle

Join Brethren and friends on a scenic 13-mile walk from Alston Train Station (CA9 3JB) to Haltwhistle Station, supported by marshals, refreshments, and route assistance.

  • 08:00 hrs: Meet & Greet at Alston Station
  • 08:30 hrs: Behind-the-scenes tour of the Victorian Station Master’s House
  • 09:00 hrs: Sponsored Walk Commences

Checkpoint stations: Kirkhaugh, Lintley, Slaggyford, Coanwood, Featherstone Park

Finish: Participants will be welcomed by members of Haltwhistle Lodge at Haltwhistle Station.

Sponsored Walk Route – From Alston to Haltwhistle, passing key checkpoints along the scenic South Tyne Trail.

Need a shorter route? A vintage steam train ride from Alston to Slaggyford reduces the walk to approximately 8.5 miles. A courtesy shuttle bus is also available for any walkers who need support during the event.

Featherstone Castle Family Fun Day

After the walk, all are invited to a fantastic family event at Featherstone Castle (NE49 0JG).
