Fighting Spirit: Northumberland Freemasons Support Local Teen on His Journey to Team GB

26th June 2025

A remarkable young athlete from the North East has received a financial boost from the Freemasons of Northumberland to support his dream of representing Great Britain at an international level.

14-year-old Lynden Armstrong, a rising star in the world of Muay Thai, has been selected to compete at the Unified World Championships in Italy this October. With only two years of training and 18 months of competitive fighting, Lynden has already amassed an impressive record of 14 fights, 13 wins, and several championship titles:

  • ISKA British Title
  • Siam Open Championship
  • MTB Challenge Title
  • Sandee International Championship

He’s now preparing to challenge for the European Championship belt in July 2025.

Backing a Champion

Knowing that the cost of international competition can be a challenge, Brierdene Lodge No. 5344 brought Lynden’s story to the attention of the Province. Thanks to the Freemasons Northumberland Charity Fund, the Province awarded £750 towards Lynden’s costs.

The Lodge generously contributed an additional £250, bringing the total support to £1,000.

“Lynden and his family were overwhelmed and grateful,” said W Bro Kevin Smith. “I’ve known the family for over 20 years – they’re hard-working and committed, and Lynden has shown extraordinary dedication.”

A Special Presentation

Lynden was presented with both cheques in person at Brierdene Lodge, with members proudly welcoming him in front of the Lodge banner.

Supporting Young Talent

This act of generosity not only helps a deserving young man but also reflects Freemasonry’s commitment to community, opportunity, and encouragement.

Everyone at the Provincial Grand Lodge of Northumberland and Brierdene Lodge sends their very best wishes to Lynden as he takes this next big step in his Muay Thai career.

Good luck, Lynden – we’re all behind you!
