A Memorable Evening at Lodge of Remembrance No. 6319

22nd June 2025

Thank you to W.Bro Ashley Merrilees, Worshipful Master of Remembrance Lodge No. 6319, along with his Officers, Brethren, and guests, for the warm welcome extended to W.Bro David Armstrong, APGM, and myself on our recent visit.

We were privileged to witness a seamless and superbly delivered First Degree ceremony for Bro Brett Kendall, who has joined an exceptional Lodge — and as a Lewis, added a wonderful touch of legacy to the evening.

The highlight of the night came when W.Bro David Armstrong APGM presented W.Bro Peter Maughan with his 50th certificate, celebrating a truly distinguished and dedicated Masonic career. Their shared timeline of service made the moment all the more poignant.

Perhaps the most unforgettable moment came during the festive board, when W.Bro Peter Maughan, with his characteristic wit, responded to his certificate presentation by saying he was simply “being credited for staying alive to receive it.” A priceless and humorous gem!

Adding to the magic of the evening, Bro Rob, our resident Dukes Piper, performed harmony on the bagpipes and offered an insightful talk on the history and variety of pipes.

The night had everything: excellent ritual, heartfelt recognition, joyous harmony, and wonderful company. It was a masterclass in Freemasonry at its finest — and a clear reminder of the warmth and spirit that always greets visitors to Lodge of Remembrance No. 6319.
