Saturday 25th February saw 15 intrepid members of the Northumberland Light Blues Club, and their guests, meet in Newcastle City Centre for a guided ‘historic’ walking tour of Newcastle. The tour, led by certified tour guide Michael Pace, visited many historical places and buildings of interest, pointing out and explaining the history of many artefacts that are walked past daily and taken for granted, without even noticing them!!!
Amongst the places of interest visited were the Central Arcade, Grainger Market, The Old George which is the oldest inn in Newcastle, the Bigg Market, Pudding Chare, Central Station, the Miners Institute, the Lit & Phil Society, St Nicholas Cathedral, the Castle, the Bridge Hotel, the Quayside, the Red House which is the oldest pub in Newcastle and the Crown Posada.
Included in the tour, Michael also regaled tales of Masonic history, including the visit of a former Grand Master, the Duke of Sussex, and his banquet in ‘The Assembly Rooms’.
A thoroughly enjoyable day out was enjoyed by all the members and their guests with Delaval Lodge No.2568, which meets at Maple Terrace Masonic Hall, Duke of Connaught Lodge NO.3892, which meets at Wallsend Masonic Hall, Homelyn Lodge No.6075, which meets at Ashington Masonic Hall, St Anthony’s Lodge No.4423, which meets at Byker Masonic Hall, St Peter’s Lodge No.481, which also meets at Maple Terrace Masonic Hall and Reserve Forces of Northumberland Lodge No.2666, which meets at Fern Avenue Masonic Hall, all being represented.
