An Ashington based charity, at the heart of the community, has been assisted with its essential work through a £1500 donation from Northumberland Freemasons, via the Richard Henry Holmes Benevolent Fund.
Real Deal Plus and Ashington Life Centre, based in the old Police Station and Court House on Station Road, Ashington, acts as a community hub providing much needed help and support to some of the most vulnerable people in the surrounding area, in the form of counselling and support services, life skills training, a Teen Bar, a Community Cafe, a Gardening Project, a Furniture Supply Project, a Emergency Food Bank and much more.
They currently receive referrals for assistance from a wide variety of sources including Social Services, Social Justice, Northumbria Police, Northumbria Healthcare, Women’s Refuge and the Job Centre.
Davey Falcus CEO of Real Deal Plus said “We are extremely grateful to the Northumberland Freemasons for the financial support they have given us which has helped us to continue supporting the most vulnerable members of the local community during these very challenging times.”
Stuart Cairns, Secretary to the Trustees, explained “W. Bro George Turnbull of Homelyn Lodge No 6075, brought to my attention the substantial amount of effort and dedication that the Team at Real Deal Plus & Ashington Life Centre were undertaking to provide vital food and other support to those most in need in the local community.
Other support included help with shopping; collection & delivery of necessary medications to those who were shielding and the provision of essential items of furniture such as beds, fridges & cookers to those families in desperate need.
The Trustees of our Benevolent Fund were delighted to award a grant of £1,500 in support of that terrific service that was being provided and in the knowledge that the Grant would be mainly used for the provision of food to those in need”
