W Bro Guy Smith, a Provincial Grand Steward and current Worshipful Master of Oriental Lodge No. 9371, is embarking on an extraordinary ultrarunning challenge in memory of his late mother, raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Starting Monday, September 2nd at St David’s Lodge in Berwick, Guy will begin a four-day, nearly 200-mile journey on foot, visiting every Masonic Hall in the Province of Northumberland. He plans to take a photo at each location – sometimes arriving in the early hours – and hopes that Brethren may be present at some to cheer him on.
You can view his route with all Masonic Hall waypoints here:
Guy’s run is expected to be non-stop, with only brief rest breaks, navigating not only the roads and trails of our beautiful Province but the emotional weight of running in tribute to his mum, who sadly passed earlier this year after a short battle with Alzheimer’s.
“When the person you know and love is slowly stripped away of who they were, it’s absolutely heartbreaking, if every temple, lodge, and Brother could spare just £1 – it would make an incredible difference.”
Guy usually raises funds for Teddies for Loving Care (TLC), but this time he’s dedicating his energy to Alzheimer’s Society, and welcomes all Brethren to support him.
