Charity Evening in Support of Jobes Boxing Academy
On Saturday, 25th April 2026, a successful charity evening was held in support of Jobes Boxing Academy, bringing together brethren, families, and supporters for an enjoyable and worthwhile occasion.
The event was organised by WBro John Chan (Past APGM) and supported by WBro Terry Christie, a major sponsor and ambassador of the academy, alongside the brethren of Duke of Connaught Lodge No. 3892.
Guests gathered in Newcastle city centre before dining at the Phoenix Restaurant in Chinatown, where an excellent meal and a warm, lively atmosphere set the tone for the evening. Proceedings were led by WBro Kenny Chin, who served as Director of Ceremonies and introduced the academy’s founder, Matt Jobes.
A special moment as a young aspiring boxer receives the signed glove, reflecting the encouragement and community spirit at the heart of the evening.

About Jobes Boxing Academy
Founded in 2014, Jobes Boxing Academy has developed into a highly respected community facility based in Benwell. The academy provides a safe and structured environment for young people, promoting discipline, confidence, and personal development through sport.
In addition to supporting aspiring amateur and professional boxers, the academy offers free sessions when funding allows, ensuring access for those who need it most.
Speakers on the evening highlighted the academy’s strong community focus and its commitment to supporting young people from the local area. Its work extends beyond training, with members regularly travelling to competitions across the country and achieving notable success in the ring.
A Memorable Evening
Raffle prizes on display, including a signed boxing glove from the “Titles on the Tyne” event, generously donated in support of Jobes Boxing Academy.

A particularly memorable moment came during the raffle, when a signed boxing glove—donated following a recent event at the Utilita Arena—was generously gifted to a young aspiring boxer. The gesture reflected the spirit of encouragement and community that underpins the academy’s work.
The evening raised a total of £480, which will directly support the ongoing activities of Jobes Boxing Academy.
It was also noted that the relationship between the academy and Freemasonry continues to develop, with increasing interest among academy members in learning more about the Craft.
