Appointments To And Promotions In Grand Rank in United Grand Lodge

Congratulations, from everyone at Northumberland Freemasons, to the Brethren who were recently Appointed to, and Promoted in, United Grand Lodge.

W.Bro Robert Thornton was initiated into Freemasonry, into Seaton Delaval Lodge No.4617, which meets at Seaton Delaval Masonic Hall, in January 1982, He has been Master of the Lodge on three separate occasions in 1990, 1998 and 2012. He was rewarded in Provincial Grand Lodge when he was appointed to the rank of Past Provincial Junior Grand Deacon, receiving subsequent promotions to Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden in 2004 and then the acting rank of Provincial Senior Grand Warden in 2014. He has been Appointed in United Grand Lodge to the rank of Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies.

W.Bro Raymond Arthur Walton was initiated into Freemasonry, into Lodge of Swinburne No.2680, which meets at Throckley Masonic Hall, April 1993., subsequently resigning in 2020 and joining the Insurance and Banking Lodge of Northumbria No.3886, which meets at Fern Avenue Masonic Hall. He was Master of Lodge of Swinburne in 1999 and 2003 and was acknowledged in Provincial Grand Lodge in 2007 when he was Appointed to the rank of Past Provincial Junior Grand Deacon, receiving a subsequent Promotion to Past Provincial Grand Superintendent of Works in 2017. He has also been Appointed in United Grand Lodge to the rank of Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies.

W.Bro Matthew David Edward Auld was initiated into the now erased Servavi Lodge No.6105 in March 1973. After the Lodge’s erasure he joined Newminster Lodge No.5328, which meets at Morpeth Masonic Hall. In Provincial Grand Lodge he is Appointed to the rank of Provincial Deputy Grand Registrar in 1994, being Promoted to Provincial Grand Registrar in 2004, an office he held to 2010, when he was appointed to the office of Provincial Grand Charity Steward in 2010, an office he held until the end of the recent Festival. He was recognised for his work in Provincial Grand Lodge when he was Appointed in United Grand Lodge to the rank of Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies. He has been Promoted to Past Junior Grand Deacon.

W.Bro William Edward Nesbit was initiated into Freemasonry in April 1976, when he joined Bothal Lodge No.4116, which meets at Ashington Masonic Hall. He subsequently became a joining member of Northumbrian Past Masters Lodge No.3477, which meets at Fern Avenue Masonic Hall. He has been Master of Bothal Lodge on three occasions in 1987, 2019 and 2021. He was acknowledged in Provincial Grand Lodge in 1994 when he was Appointed to the rank of Past Provincial Junior Grand Deacon, receiving subsequent Promotion to Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden in 2004. He was rewarded in United Grand Lodge when he was Appointed to the rank of Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies in 2009 and has been Promoted to the rank of Past Junior Grand Deacon.

W.Bro David Southern was Initiated into Freemasonry into Priory Lodge No.1863, which meets at North Shields Masonic Hall, subsequently joining Epicure Lodge No.9618, which meets at Hexham Masonic Hall, in 2009. He was Master of Priory Lodge on two occasions in 1999 and 2005 and was Master of Epicure Lodge in 2005. He was rewarded in Provincial Grand Lodge in 2008 when he was Appointed to the active rank of Provincial Assistant Grand Registrar, receiving subsequent Promotions to Provincial Grand Standard Bearer in 2009 and Provincial Junior Grand Warden in 2016. He is the current Provincial Grand Superintendent of Works, an office he has held since 2019. He was acknowledged by United Grand Lodge in 2017 when he was appointed to the rank of Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies and has been Promoted to Past Junior Grand Deacon.
