Bro. Arther Lewin – 50th Certificate

20th September 2025

Bro. Arthur Lewin was born on 23rd September 1935.

He began his working life at Hudspirts for two years before starting an apprenticeship with Mitchesons. After commencing his training, Arther left to complete his National Service as a Fusilier. On returning, he completed his apprenticeship with Mitchesons.

In 1960, Arthur joined Leech Homes as an electrician, where he remained until redundancy in 1981.

That same year, in April 1960, he married Joan Nelson. Together, they raised two daughters, Elisabeth and Jane. Today, Arther is the proud grandfather of five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, ranging in age from 2 months to 15 years old.

After supporting his daughter Jane following an accident, Arther went on to work at Gateshead College as a technician. He retired in 1996 to care for his wife, Joan, after her stroke, which prevented him from attending lodge meetings for many years.

Following Joan’s passing, Arther was warmly invited back to the lodge. He remains especially grateful to Bro. C. England for providing transport to and from meetings, and to W. Bro. A. Wilson for maintaining contact with brethren across different lodges during his time away.

Beyond his working and Masonic life, Arther was also active in the community. He served with the Boys’ Brigade at Throckley Church and took on the role of Treasurer at Ravensworth Road Church.

This year marks not only Arther’s 50th Certificate, but also a very special milestone: his 90th birthday on 23rd September 2025. I am sure you will all join in extending heartfelt congratulations and wishing him many happy returns.
