On a special December evening, Ocianus Lodge No. 8329 marked a significant milestone with the initiation of two new candidates, including a Lewis – a son following in the Masonic footsteps of his father. The ceremony saw Bro Dan, the son of W Bro Steve Gill, and Bro James formally join the fraternity in a heartfelt and memorable occasion.
The initiation of a Lewis carries profound meaning in Freemasonry, symbolising the continuation of tradition and family legacy within the Craft. W Bro Steve Gill had the honour of participating in the ceremony, supported by the skilled and dedicated Officers of the Lodge. Their efforts created an inspiring and dignified evening for all in attendance.
The evening also welcomed a wealth of visitors, reflecting the spirit of brotherly connection and unity. Among them were two brethren from Norway, one of whom maintains ties with Northumberland, demonstrating how Freemasonry unites men across distances and cultures.
Festive Fellowship
After the Lodge proceedings, attendees gathered to enjoy a sumptuous Christmas Fayre festive board. The festive atmosphere was warm and lively, with plenty of camaraderie shared around the table. A highlight of the evening was a raffle held in honour of the late W Bro John Pescott, a beloved and long-serving member of Ocianus Lodge.
The centrepiece of the raffle was a bottle of 80-year-old whisky, a fitting tribute to John’s legacy. The raffle raised an impressive £205, which, combined with proceeds from other raffles, will contribute to the purchase of a new Secretary’s desk and chair. This furniture, adorned with a plaque commemorating W Bro John Pescott, will serve as a lasting tribute to his dedication and service.
Closing the Year in Unity
The evening was a perfect conclusion to the year for Ocianus Lodge. The initiation of new members, the celebration of tradition, and the remembrance of a cherished Brother encapsulated the values of Freemasonry: brotherhood, charity, and respect for heritage.
The brethren of Ocianus Lodge can look back on this meeting with pride, knowing they upheld the finest traditions of the Craft while paving the way for the future. With such a strong sense of community and purpose, Ocianus Lodge is well-prepared to embark on another successful year.
