Members of the Provincial Priors Bodyguard of the Provincial Priory of Northumberland embarked on a meaningful trip to Germany recently, accompanied by several other masons from the province. Their journey was marked by visits to significant battlefield sites and memorials, where they paid respects to the fallen and honored the shared history between the nations.
The group’s itinerary began with a visit to Pointe du Hoc on Monday, July 16, 2024. This site, known for its critical role during the D-Day landings, was a poignant start to their journey. Following this, they visited the American Memorial, where they laid a wreath on behalf of the province, commemorating the sacrifices made by American soldiers.
On Tuesday, July 17, 2024, the group continued their homage at the British Memorial. Here, they laid a wreath on behalf of the Northumberland masons, paying tribute to the bravery and valor of British forces. The day also included visits to Sword Beach and Pegasus Bridge, both crucial locations in the D-Day operations and symbolic of the enduring alliance between Britain and its allies.
In addition to these commemorative activities, the Northumberland masons had the honor of being installed into the Grand Priory of Germany as the Grand Master’s Bodyguard on Saturday, July 13, 2024. This prestigious event further solidified the bonds of brotherhood and mutual respect between the masons of Northumberland and Germany.
