Last Friday night Portland Lodge celebrated the re-affirmation of one of our Assistant Provincial Grand Masters, W Bro Gordon Craigs, as Worshipful Master of the Lodge.
Portland Lodge, which had been on the verge of closure, was “rescued” by the brethren who had been part of the meals-on-wheels team during the pandemic. In a tweet, the then Grand Secretary, acknowledged the success of the rescue of the lodge, which appropriately becoming a dining lodge.
During the meeting, the WM welcomed three joining members into the lodge and two further joining members were proposed on the night.
The re-affirmation was followed by the appointment and investiture of the officers after which the WM congratulated one of the members, W Bro Simon Bowey Hills on his appointment the previous day to PProvGStwd, one of the proposed members, W Bro Louis Churchill who had been promoted to PPGReg.
After the meeting, the brethren enjoyed pre-dinner drinks and canapes. A fine banquet comprised of chicken and apricot terrine, duck breast with white truffle gratin, chocolate panettone bread and butter pudding with clotted cream and rounded off with cheese and biscuits and, of course, a glass of port.
In response to his toast, the Master thanked the brethren who had taken office and those who had made the arrangements for the evening. He stated that although the lodge was making progress, there was still much work to do. He hoped, with the assistance of the brethren, that the lodge would achieve the Members’ Pathway Charter Mark this year.
Finally, he wished the brethren and their loved ones a happy Christmas and a healthy New Year.
