The October meeting of Newminster Lodge No.5328, which meets at Morpeth Masonic Hall, saw a celebration recognising 50 fabulous continuous years of Craft membership of WBro. David Auld.
As Newminster Lodge is the Mother Lodge of the Head of the Northumberland Freemasons, where he holds the Office of Chaplain, it fell to R.Bro. Ian Craigs to make the presentation to David.
During the presentation Ian made reference to David’s personal, as well as his Masonic, life and noted that he was originally Initiated into the, now closed Servavi Lodge No.6105 in 1973, becoming a joining member of Newminster Lodge after the sad closure and has remained a dedicated member ever since.
He was acknowledged in Provincial Grand Lodge when he was Appointed to the rank of Provincial Deputy Grand Registrar in 1994, being Promoted to Provincial Grand Registrar in 2004, an office he held to 2010, when he was appointed to the office of Provincial Grand Charity Steward, an office he held until the end of the recent Festival. He was recognised for his work in Provincial Grand Lodge when he was Appointed in United Grand Lodge to the rank of Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies, receiving subsequent Promotion in 2022 to Past Junior Grand Deacon.
David is a Morpeth lad through and through, and his early years were spent living in a pub in the town where, at 9 years old, he held a responsible job taking bets to the bookies shop on behalf of customers! David studied Law at Newcastle University and then returned to Morpeth as a very successful Solicitor with his own practice in the town which still bears his name today.
He has had a very busy and successful Masonic Career too, and the PGM mentioned how much work was carried out by David in his role as Provincial Charity Steward during the last Festival which helped the Province to smash its target of 2 million pounds; the eventual total raised being a staggering 3.3 million pounds!
Whilst now retired, David still retains an interest in his solicitors practice as a consultant, with his wife Lynn, also a Solicitor. They both love travel and are spending a lot of time travelling and exploring new countries.
Congratulations David from all at Northumberland Freemasons and we wish you many more happy years in Freemasonry.
