The February meeting of St David’s Lodge No.393, which meets at Berwick Masonic Hall, saw the first Provincial Team visit of the Masonic year, assist the Lodge with a fantastic quadruple celebration.
The Team, under the leadership of the Head of Northumberland Freemasons, RWBro Ian Craigs, were there to primarily dedicate a new Lodge Banner and present a 50th Certificate to one of the members, WBro Alex Burgon, however the double celebration quickly turned into a quadruple celebration when Alex was given a surprise field promotion, in Provincial Grand Lodge, to the rank of Past Provincial Senior Grand Warden and the assembled brethren, including the Provincial Grand Master for the Provincial Grand Lodge of East Lothian, RWBro Douglas Fergie, also celebrated a belated Burns Night with a traditional Burns supper.
Alex was initiated into Freemasonry in April 1970 and occupied the office of Master in 1978. He is currently the Lodge Treasurer, a position he has occupied since 2017.
He was acknowledged in Provincial Grand Lodge in 1988 when he was appointed to the rank of Past Provincial Deputy Grand Registrar, subsequently receiving his totally unexpected Promotion to Past Provincial Senior Grand Warden during the recent celebrations.
In his working life Alex was a local barber, dishing out the Lodge Summons from his barbers shop.
Congratulations, from everyone at Northumberland Freemasons, to Alex on reaching his fantastic milestone and receiving his well-deserved Promotion, and to the Lodge on their new banner.
