After a three year absence Northumberland Freemasons returned to Newcastle Racecourse with a bang when they held their first Royal Arch Chapter Convocation since the lifting of lockdown.
The packed venue was especially lucky when the guest of honour turned out to be the M.E.Pro First Grand Principal, E.Comp Peter Geoffrey Lowndes. His visit coincided with the announcement of his retirement and will probably be one of his last engagements, and certainly will be this part of the country.
By coincidence Peter was the installing Officer, seven and a half years ago, when our present M.E.Grand Superintendent, E.Comp Ian Craigs, was installed as the Head of the Order in Northumberland.
The meeting saw the retirement of the Deputy Grand Superintendent, E.Comp Mike McHale, 1st Provincial Grand Principal, E.Comp David Moffat, and the 2nd Provincial Grand Principal, E.Comp George Wady, who were replaced by E.Comp Gordon Craigs, E.Comp Philippe Pages and E.Comp Paul Winship.
During his address to the Companions the Grand Superintendent expressed his deepest thanks to his outgoing Deputy and 1st and 2nd Grand Principals for all their hard work, assistance and support, and the rest of Northumberland Freemasons echo that sentiment.
Congratulations from everyone at Northumberland Freemasons also go to all the other incumbent officers on their appointments and promotions. We wish you all a great year in office.
The meeting was deemed a great success and this was echoed when one Companion present was heard to say “Enjoyed today not been to many chapter annual meetings only my 2nd one. Very different from craft”.
