In response to the Coronavirus Pandemic, several members of Oriental Lodge donated to an initiative to purchase medical grade face masks for local Care Homes across the Province. Care Workers are on the frontline in the fight against Coronavirus and there have been widely reported issues with a lack of essential protective equipment.
Donations from Lodge Members to the initiative, which was led by Bro Chris Fraser, totalled £1500 and one of Oriental Lodge’s younger members, Bro William Cheung, drove down to the Midlands to collect essential N95 masks. Lodge Secretary, WBro Kam Wah Mak, volunteered to distribute the masks to six Care Homes over the weekend, which were proposed by the Lodge members involved in the initiative..
One of the organisers, WBro Sam Watt said “In the midst of PPE shortage across the NHS our donation is a local gesture by a Masonic Lodge to improve the safety of care home workers. We are just supporting the community we depend on”.
The Worshipful Master of Oriental Lodge, WBro David Anderson, added: “Charity is the heart of Freemasonry and our Lodge Brethren who participated in this initiative have joined countless other Freemasons across the Britain and the World to support the global effort against Coronavirus”.
